Mining is the extraction and processing of minerals for use in everything from roads and electronics to buildings. We have experience working with clients from various parts of the process, including: power distribution on-site and various projects within processing plants (including cement production).
Mine Site Power Distribution Upgrade, ID
JMK Engineering served as an independent quality reviewer for the MV distribution upgrade, supporting the expanding mine facilities. This included a new mill and shaft.
We reviewed all construction documentation that was to be provided to the client for completeness.
This included reviewing:
- The contract scope of work to ensure that all areas of design were covered by the prepared package
- Drawings for design intent, clarity and completeness
- Specification documents for conciseness
- Specified equipment to verify the correct use
High Grade Mill Commissioning Support, CO
JMK Engineering was responsible for reviewing the power system design and acting as the owner’s engineer as part of a wider team.
As the project progressed, our responsibilities moved to developing a comprehensive sub-system test plan that verified proper distributed control system (DCS) operation, and the development of test sheets for the verification of PID test loops.
For the on-site portion of the project, we assisted with instrumentation checkout and verification which included troubleshooting the installation and modifying the equipment integration between multiple vendors.
Power System Study, Chanute, KS
JMK Engineering completed a power system study including Short Circuit, Protection Coordination, Incident Energy and Load Flow Studies.
This plant has not had a proper power system analysis. This part of the study is the first phase, and the report will be updated with additional information over the next couple of fiscal years.
The incident energy portion of the report has been integrated into their electrical safety program and labels have been updated with the new information.
